Maddy is currently completing her Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta. Maddy’s schooling has taught her the importance of the relationship between the counsellor and the client; she believes in creating a judgment-free, safe, and compassionate space where everyone can feel seen, be heard, and express themselves in a way that is meaningful to them. Maddy strives to help individuals to be empowered by gaining a deeper relationship with themselves and with significant others in their lives.

Maddy is currently taking on new teen and adult clients (ages 10+) for individual counselling at a reduced fee ($50/hr) to gain hands-on experience as part of her Master’s program. She is passionate about helping her clients through challenges regarding anxiety, ADHD, attachment issues, depression, stress management, and trauma, but is open to a wide range of presenting issues to gain further understanding and to learn more about the unique challenges her clients go through. Maddy uses a holistic and integrated approach that is grounded in a person-centered and humanistic theoretical orientation. She specializes in mindfulness, strengths-based counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy and Attachment Science.

In addition to her dedication towards helping adult individuals find connection and healing through therapy, Maddy has also spent the past few years as a secondary teacher, teaching grades 7-12, giving her a unique insight into the school system and how she can help teens navigate and advocate for themselves. She aspires to create a safe space where students can be themselves, learn, and make connections with their peers, leading to a more positive and empowering school experience. Additionally, she has coached a variety of school sports, has been involved in supporting student leadership and has been a school Health Champion, promoting the mental, physical, and emotional health and well-being of students and staff. She loves the connection she is able to make with her students and is inspired to see them grow into their awesome, authentic, and empowered selves! As both a teacher and a therapist, Maddy understands the stressors and anxieties that teens experience in school and desires to support their wellbeing and mental health first and foremost. Working with teens and in the classroom has given her valuable experience working with this age group and insight into the relationships and challenges that teens experience and how best to support them.
